Killbear Provincial Park with Helen Walter & Keith Thirgood: September 22 to 26
Killbear Art Retreat: September 22 to 26, a special four-day retreat in Killbear Provincial Park on Georgian Bay with Keith Thirgood and Helen Walter.
This will be a special event. Killbear is an amazing destination for artists. If you're interested in forest and windswept rocky shores, Killbear won't disappoint.
Helen and Keith paint in a bold, loose style capturing the essence of any scene in a few bold shapes and dramatic colour.
Keith and Helen will act as mentors and instructors helping you reach a new level in your painting.

Your 4 days in Killbear begins Monday evening, after check-in and dinner, with an orientation session and a discussion about locations, your goals and the art of plein air painting.
We begin every morning at 9 am heading off to the first location. You get down to painting right away, taking advantage of the morning light, with Keith and Helen acting as your personal coaches. At noon, one of them will give a demo, then it’s lunch, a short break and back to painting for the rest of the day. After dinner Helen and Keith will lead an informal discussion of our day's work.

While Keith and Helen will be demonstrating in acrylic, oil painters as well as watercolourists and pastel artists will gain from their discussions of values, composition and reducing the plein air scene to abstracted shapes in order to bring an effective composition out of visual chaos.
Enjoy the rugged shore of Georgian Bay without the discomfort of camping. We are staying at the Killbear Lodge. Our group will have the entire lodge to ourselves. Rooms are single occupancy with single beds. If a couple attends, there are three rooms with double beds available (first come, first served).
To keep the cost of this retreat lower than our usual retreats, you provide and prepare your own meals. The kitchen is huge and can accommodate a number of people preparing food at the same time.
The Lodge is large enough that we can paint indoors, in case of inclement weather.
